DIESSE’s commitment to developing immunological serum tests for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infections continues.
Monteriggioni 28 August 2020 – We are pleased to announce the arrival of an innovative antibody test, using samples of saliva. The test, called “Chorus SARS-CoV-2 Screen”, will be available on the automated platform Chorus from September.
Collecting saliva samples is easier and less invasive than either nasal swabs or blood tests. Patients are given a kit containing an absorbent sponge and specimen container. They simply keep the sponge in their mouth for a minute, before putting it into the container which is sent to the lab for analysis.
The new test provides results quickly and in complete autonomy, making it ideal for screen testing. Furthermore, the availability of testing on a third sample type increases the efficiency of COVID 19 monitoring.
“Thanks to this innovative kit we can increase the number of screening tests, without the stress of blood tests” Alessandra Brogi, director of Biotech research at DIESSE stated. “Being easy to obtain and non-invasive, saliva samples are particularly suitable for children or other patients for whom venous sampling proves difficult, such as the elderly”.
